Magic Mountain High

Workshop Off Minor Recordings

Near death experiences bring folks together.
On a crazy Porchetta infused race from Rome to Foligno, Move D & Juju & Jordash first met. They decided that if they survived the curvy mountainous roads of Umbria they would form a band and release 17 LPs together, to symbolize the 17 KG of pork they ingested that fateful morning.

The three decided to plan a studio session at David's home studio in Heidelberg. That session turned into a 4 day jam lockdown and a few months later a few more jam packed studio days were planned. Due to the groups improvisational inclinations, live improv sessions were the next step, and thru out 2011 several of those occurred, each one more enjoyable and more successful than the one before.

That's the legend anyhow...

Magic Mountain High love hardware synthesizers and drum machines.
Magic Mountain High love group improvisations.
Magic Mountain High love Techno.
Magic Mountain High love House.
Magic Mountain High love it when everyone is dancing.

Move D

Workshop

Move D, aka David Moufang, is one of modern electronic music’s most beloved souls with a long and varied musical history with roots in 60s and 70s jazz, psychedelic, rock, soul and early electronica.

Making his first appearance on vinyl as part of a school bands competition in 1983, it was only another four years before he started toying with the medium as a DJ, playing funk, soul, hip-hop and proto-house. In the 90s things began to move fast with the inception of his Source Records imprint, early productions (including the debut Move D LP ‘Kunststoff’ – Source Records, 1994) and the beginnings of a 26 album relationship with close friend, the late Pete Namlook. Since then, Moufang has become an unassuming heavyweight in house music as a producer for countless forward thinking labels, a collaborator and a truly original selector.

His discography is long and impressive and holds releases on a broad variety of labels such as Source, Modern Love, Workshop, Smallville, Warp, Running Back, Uzuri and Electric Minds among others plus collaborations and involvements in projects like Magic Mountain High (w. Juju & Jordash) and Reagenz (w. Jonah Sharp).

Not one to slack off, his live and dj performances have been on par with (if not superior to) his studio work, pulling from all corners of his diverse catalogue in order to create an experience that attacks the hips and head in equal measure.
His releases touch on house conventions but are delivered in his own inimitable style, leaving everyone - from long time fans to the uninitiated - with their jaws on the floor and their hands in the air.

Donato Dozzy

Spazio Disponibile Spectrum Spools

"In twenty years of activity as a DJ I still can't realize the real social utility of what I'm doin', but I have seen the therapeutic function..." - Donato Dozzy

Few DJs and producers are as widely and universally acclaimed in techno circles as Italian Donato Dozzy. Never one to pay heed to the zeitgeist, he prefers to deal in hypnotic soundscapes that really take you on a trip. Leaning on acid, ambient and of course techno, he is known for his ability to work his way into peoples' minds at places like Labyrinth Festival, as well as with the music he releases on Aquaplano, Prologue and Further Records.

Neel

Spectrum Spools Spazio Disponibile

Italian Giuseppe Tillieci has always paid great attention to the technical aspects of his sound whether crafting in the studio, DJing or playing live around the world. As such his output on labels like Prologue and Silent Season fuses rhythm and texture with techno and ambience in hugely captivating ways. Of course, Neel's main output to date has been alongside long-term professional and personal friend Donato Dozzy as Voices from the Lake, but soon he is to release his first solo EPs and a debut LP called Phobos on the Spectrum Spools label.

Someone able to make music that is as deep and obscure as it is fluid and rhythmic, Neel also performs in three different ways in clubs around the world. Firstly, he is an exceptional DJ able to fuse together the sort of cerebral and cohesive sets that really transport you to another realm. Secondly, he performs a mesmerising AV show with the help of a mysterious visual artist. It recently debuted at Mutek and marries abstract visuals with atmospheric sonics, leaving audiences left adrift in wide open spaces of sound that work the head as much as the heel.

Finally, of course, there are the shows along side Donato as Voices from the Lake, which see the pair explore experimental underwater sounds influenced by nature, African drums, Kosmische and minimalism. Neel, then, is a true modern day techno craftsman who can do surreal and unusual things with sound in truly unique ways.
